Universal Pictures has placed Sabrina Carpenter at the center of its next major musical, giving the pop star her first studio lead role and a producer credit on an untitled feature inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. The project marks a decisive shift in Carpenter’s career, bringing her into a new phase in which she shapes both performance and production on a large-scale film.

Carpenter reportedly pitched the concept to Universal more than a year ago, setting the foundation for a project that reflects her vision from the earliest stages. The studio has paired her with writer-director Lorene Scafaria, a two-time Emmy nominee known for Hustlers and key episodes of Succession. Scafaria’s involvement positions the film within a confident creative framework, one capable of handling the surreal and unpredictable character of Carroll’s source material. Producer Marc Platt, whose filmography includes major musical releases, joins Carpenter on the production team. Alloy Entertainment’s Leslie Morgenstein and Elysa Koplovitz Dutton will also produce.
