Adidas and Pharrell Williams‘ Humanrace presented the EVOLUTION Pro, a high-end running shoe that represents the most advanced expression of their ongoing collaboration. With a retail price of $1,000, the project approaches footwear as a conceptual exercise rooted in design exploration and technical execution.

Pharrell Williams applies his distinct design language throughout the EVOLUTION Pro. His influence appears in the restrained palette, the material choices, and the emphasis on form-driven detail. Each component follows a clear visual logic, creating depth through surface treatment and proportion.
The EVOLUTION Pro develops from the foundation established by the original EVO PRO 1, which gained credibility through technical development and athlete validation. This new version introduces a wider sole construction, paired with tactile elements designed to respond directly to touch. These surface details encourage physical interaction and emphasize sensation as a core component of the design experience.
adidas conceived the EVOLUTION Pro as a study in performance engineering expressed through form. Every element contributes to this aim, from material selection to construction methods. The upper features a mono-mesh build that creates a clean and uninterrupted surface. A tonal lacing system reinforces this approach, keeping visual focus on structure and texture rather than contrast.
Lightweight white Monomesh forms the base of the upper and supports a raised 5D dot pattern. This treatment adds dimensional relief and introduces a physical texture that aligns with the shoe’s touch-responsive concept.
Beneath the upper, the EVOLUTION Pro incorporates the Lightstrike Pro midsole, one of adidas’ most advanced cushioning systems. The midsole supports comfort for runners while maintaining a streamlined profile consistent with the shoe’s overall design language. The widened sole complements this construction, supporting stability and reinforcing the experimental direction of the project.
The adidas x Humanrace EVOLUTION Pro will release on January 24th in limited quantities worldwide through select partner retailers.
