SNEAKERS

Air Jordan 17 x Doernbecher Freestyle – Zach
Zach drew on his love for mechanics to design the Air Jordan 17. The shoe includes hex-shaped eyelets and chrome accents that resemble bike parts, paired with a soft leather collar echoing the feel of a luxury steering wheel. The lace cover hides interchangeable silver charms, giving the wearer options to personalize the shoes. The hangtag displays the number 38, commemorating the 38 days Zach spent in the hospital recovering from sudden cardiac arrest. His design combines technical details with a tactile, hands-on feel, reflecting his personal story and passion.

Air Force 1 ’07 x Doernbecher Freestyle – Oli
Oli’s design celebrates his love of cooking. The midsole features laser-engraved vegetables, and the Swoosh is embossed with olive branches. The shoe also includes a miniature utensil set that can be placed in the Swoosh for playful interaction. Oli painted a rainbow on the outsole during his treatment, symbolizing hope and positivity, and included it in the final design as a reminder to look for brightness even in difficult moments. This sneaker merges culinary inspiration with personal symbolism in both subtle and eye-catching ways.

Women’s Air Max Dn8 x Doernbecher Freestyle – Raegan
Raegan’s Air Max Dn8 reflects her journey back to softball after surgery. The upper layers vibrant pastels with reflective accents, and the round Air tubes feature printed softball graphics. The midsole displays frothy wave patterns inspired by her love of the beach. The sockliner shows her surgery dates alongside the phrase, “I CAN DO HARD THINGS,” a personal mantra. Every element communicates resilience and her return to sport, while combining aesthetic appeal with story-driven design.

Air Max Plus x Doernbecher Freestyle – Sergio
Sergio designed the Air Max Plus to embrace individuality and his diverse interests. The black shoe features graphics inspired by video games and drawing, while the white shoe depicts monster lizards enjoying a pizza party against a colorful NYC skyline. The orange tongues mimic basketball textures, reflecting his passion for the sport. The glow-in-the-dark outsole incorporates colorful circles reminiscent of his favorite gaming controller. Sergio’s design merges playfulness, urban culture, and personal hobbies into a unique visual experience.

Women’s V2K Run x Doernbecher Freestyle – Khovny
Khovny filled her V2K Run with elements representing her favorite objects and memories. Each shoe displays different bright colors inspired by album art from a favorite musician. Designs include shiny snakes, her stuffed animal Papa Bear, and a miniature version of her toy Pinkie Doo Doo. The sneaker comes with a detachable friendship bracelet to honor her late brother Ryan, who had the same rare condition. The design mixes whimsy and emotional meaning, making every detail personally significant.

Women’s Vomero Plus x Doernbecher Freestyle – Molly
Molly’s Vomero Plus highlights her connection to nature. The upper features embroidered camas flowers, while the Swoosh reveals a lenticular forest print. The outsole shows a fawn hoof, symbolically linking each step to the outdoors. Molly included a field journal alongside the shoes, with a quote from her favorite author: “The most important thing each of us can know is our unique gift and how to use it in the world.” Her design balances natural motifs with interactive storytelling, making the shoes visually and conceptually rich.

Apparel Inspired by the Collection
The collection includes a men’s cardigan and several T-shirts featuring motifs from the sneaker designs, including monster lizards, camas flowers, and beach elements. These lightweight, comfortable pieces let fans showcase elements from the sneaker designs in everyday wear while celebrating the creativity of the young designers.
