
MUBI announces that Park Chan-wook’s dark comedy thriller No Other Choice will stream exclusively from March 13, 2026. The film arrives on the platform following its world premiere at the 82nd Venice Film Festival and its UK premiere at the London Film Festival. South Korea selected the film as its entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards®.

No Other Choice received strong recognition during awards season. At the 46th Blue Dragon Film Awards in South Korea, the film won seven awards, including Best Picture, Best Director for Park Chan-wook, Best Actress for Son Ye-jin, Best Supporting Actor for Lee Sung-min, and Best Music. The film also earned nominations at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Foreign Language Film, and Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for Lee Byung-hun.


Following its reception at Venice and London, the film won the International Audience Award at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. It later received three nominations at the 35th Gotham Awards for Outstanding Lead Performance for Lee Byung-hun, Best Adapted Screenplay for Park Chan-wook, Lee Kyoung-mi, Jahye Lee, and Don McKellar, and Best International Feature.
Park Chan-wook directs the film and co-writes the screenplay with Lee Kyoung-mi, Don McKellar, and Jahye Lee. The cast includes Lee Byung-hun and Son Ye-jin, joined by Park Hee-soon, Lee Sung-min, Yeom Hye-ran, Cha Seung-won, and Yoo Yeon-seok.


The film adapts Donald E. Westlake’s novel The Ax. The story follows Man-su, a middle-aged man who loses his job after twenty-five years at a paper company. Determined to secure employment, he resolves to eliminate his competition in order to create an opening for himself. Through this premise, the narrative examines material ambition, corporate culture, workplace automation, and economic anxiety.
Critics have responded with strong praise. Time Out described the film as a masterful work of cinema and suggested it may represent Park Chan-wook’s finest achievement. BBC Culture called it a deliriously entertaining masterpiece. The Times noted its dark humor and referenced echoes of Parasite.


With its March 13 streaming debut, No Other Choice enters MUBI’s catalogue as a high-profile international release shaped by festival acclaim and awards recognition.
