Their search develops through a collection of unexpected items. Sage, keys, a taser and an unfinished Icee each reveal fragments of their owners’ lives, though the objects leave plenty of room for interpretation. Rowan and Jemima use these belongings to retrace their steps through New York and work out where the other person might have gone.
The unfinished Icee gives Jemima the most useful clue. She notices that it remains cold and realizes Rowan could still be nearby. Jeremy O. Harris accompanies the action through commentary that responds to the increasingly unusual direction of the hunt. His role brings another voice into the story as Rowan and Jemima attempt to understand strangers through the objects inside their bags.
The Scene Bag remains central to the plot. The accidental exchange gives The Swap its structure, while everything stored inside the bags becomes part of the second chapter’s mystery.
