Vans x Travis Barker Collection Builds on Punk Culture

The release brings punk, skate and BMX references into footwear, apparel and campaign imagery.

Vans reunites with Travis Barker for a second collaborative collection, extending their shared connection to punk culture across footwear and apparel.  Southern California culture has shaped Barker’s identity since childhood. Skateboarding, BMX and punk shows formed part of his early environment in Fontana, where Vans became his preferred footwear. The shoes remained part of his daily uniform as his career developed from the Warped Tour circuit to international stages.

AD CAMPAIGNS

Barker has maintained a visible relationship with the company throughout his career. He previously auctioned stage-worn Vans as items connected to music history and recently appeared in the company’s Off The Wall campaign. The new collection builds on that long personal connection.

“My first pair of shoes was a pair of Vans,” Barker says. “Growing up in Fontana, I always connected the brand to skateboarding, BMX, and punk culture. Once I started seeing my idols wearing them too, it really sealed it for me. To me, they were always the coolest shoes.”

Barker describes the collaboration as a natural decision because of the role Vans has played throughout his life. That familiarity guides a capsule rooted in the communities and visual codes that influenced him before his rise as a musician.

The Vans x Travis Barker Old Skool leads the release in a fresh white colorway. Canvas forms the upper, while cotton laces maintain the familiar construction of the silhouette. A “Dues Paid” emblem appears across the vamp. Barbed wire graphics wrap around the foxing, adding a harder edge to the clean base. Travis Barker logos appear on the heel and tongue.

The apparel carries the phrases “Dues Paid” and “Self Made” in script lettering across the sleeves and back panels. Both slogans reflect Barker’s approach to his career and the reputation he developed through years of continuous work.

The campaign expands the project through a group of musicians, friends and fans. Barker appears alongside The Paradox, N8NOFACE, Tim Armstrong of Rancid and The Transplants, Missy of Mannequin Pussy, Dani Miller of Surfbort and additional participants.

Photographer and Vans Brand Curator Atiba Jefferson shot the campaign at an iconic Chicago music festival and across the streets of Los Angeles. The images draw from independent punk zines, using raw graphics and a DIY approach to communicate the capsule’s resistance to convention.

The Vans x Travis Barker capsule launches on June 18 at Vans website, Journeys website and selected Vans and Journeys stores. Vans Family members can access limited quantities one day before the general release.
