The Importance of Comfort in Modern Home Design

How important is comfort in the ever more minimalist tendences in modern home design - discussed by ARCHISCENE editors:

modern home
There was a time when being on trend meant accepting that comfort and style were mutually exclusive, yet progressive interior design is now reverting to traditional domestic interior design.

Today’s designs are all about making the home cosy, with warmth emanating throughout the abode by choosing simple upgrades like oak shaker doors, known for their insulating properties. Who wouldn’t want to be enveloped in a feeling of warmth the moment they step into the home? Discover some tricks to give your home the ultimate warm, welcoming ambience.

Back to Basics

Before you transform your home, consider getting rid of anything that does not meet the criteria of cosy. Put aside time to organise your furnishings and accessories into, keep, sell and donate. Monies earned from the sale of unwanted furniture will be useful when you wish to purchase new items that will add to the comfort of your revamped home.

Decorate

Turning your home into a sanctuary does not necessarily mean you have to completely redecorate. A statement wall in colours such as brick red, orange, plum or dark green can be enough to seep warmth into the room. There are some fantastic wallpaper designs available at the moment which focus on textures and colours to fit in with the contemporary perception of comfort. If you don’t want to commit to block colours, select wallpaper with touches of colour, which can then be accentuated with accessories in the same colours.

Beautiful Bedrooms

As the cosiest place in the entire house, the bedroom should receive the utmost attention when you are revamping your home. Think huge beds with thick, sumptuous mattresses, covered in over-sized duvets and the softest of cushions and throws. It can be difficult to decide what material your bed should be, but if you are searching for warmer elements to make your boudoir a cosy space, I recommend wood. Wooden beds are perfect for that cosy rustic feel and are now available in an assortment of sizes and styles. Oak doors add a touch of understated elegance to the interior. Accessorise with large wooden chests and ornate real wood wardrobes and drawers.

Lovable Lounges

The living room, like the bedroom, should be a place you can completely relax, and besides furnishing the space with large, plump-cushioned sofas and armchairs, there are plenty of things you can do to make the lounge as cosy as possible. One aspect that many people forget when redecorating is lighting. Tall corner lamps that cast soft yellow shades, strings of fairy lights in an otherwise unlit room, and low hanging lightbulbs make for an extremely snug environment. A casually draped throw on a sofa or armchair is both aesthetically pleasing and practical for chillier nights and is an affordable way to add a touch of stylish comfort to the room.
