Fashion brand Helmut Lang teams up with Paris based stylist Helena Tejedor for the brand’s Seen By: The Artist Series project. For the second collaboration, Helena selected photographer Paul Mpagi Sepuya to interpret Helmut Lang‘s Resort 2021 collection. Paul Mpagi Sepuya stars in series of self-portraits.
Paul Mpagi Sepuya has been on my mind for a while, the intimacy, created with fingerprints or smudges in his pictures, the erotism of his movements and the glimpses of that studio are some of the things that have really impacted me when I have looked at his work. We exchanged ideas throughout the summer. Due to Covid-19, I wasn’t able to travel to LA and was frustrated not to be able to experience how Paul works – but in the end, it was most likely the best situation for this collaboration: just him, his camera and his mirror. – Helena Tejedor
