The highly coveted collaboration between Air Jordan and the godfather of Ura-Harajuku fashion, Hiroshi Fujiwara of Fragment Design was originally released in July 2020, but the hype is far from winding down.

SPORTSWEAR

Japanese streetwear designer, musician and prominent streetwear influencer, Fujiwara has pivotal role  in starting and defining streetwear fashion as it’s known today, with the highly coveted collaborations with the likes of Nike, Burton, Levi’s, Stussy, Supreme, Converse, and Beats by Dre, as well as with artists like Takashi Murakami, KAWS, and Eric Clapton. His latest collab with Air Jordan seems like a natural move. This represents the second chapter of his work with the brand after their highly coveted AJ1 collaboration in 2014.

Shaping the streetwear culture worldwide, his latest collection for Air Jordan, is inspired by nostalgic aesthetic, applied to a range of comfy essentials. Featuring hoodies, crew necks, tees and bottoms, the collection is inspired by a vintage PE class gear.

Apparel

With his apparel collection for Jordan brand, Fujiwara celebrates classic American gym wear. The collection includes raglan fleece, T-shirts and nylon pants in gray and blue colors, simulating the in home  and away gear.

I was looking at the vintage Jordan collections. I wanted to feel what the clothes looked like — the atmosphere and what it felt like to wear them then, including nylon tracksuits.
– Hiroshi Fujiwara.

A few sweatshirts feature a distinct ’80s inspired typography, typical for standard-issue sportswear, while the others are embezzled with photos of Michael Jordan in action.

These images become iconography a moment etched in imagination, future nostalgia in motion. It’s there that the collection’s voice is clearly formed. It’s all about honoring potent memories. – from Nike.

Sneakers

The Fragment x Jordan collaboration tastefully combines decades of footwear innovation and streetwear style, including the 3 most beloved Jordan silhouettes, reworked with Japanese designer’s signature elements.

The AJ3 applies Fujiwara’s attention to detail, featuring the black and white ‘Orca’ color scheme, inspired by his earlier Nike collab. Above the midsole and underneath a translucent Jordan logo is a subtle Fragment logo stamped on the heel, while a full SKU appears on the midsole.

The collection’s other two shoes include the Jordan XXXV and Jordan Cadence. For XXXV model, Fujiwara applies the classic sport colors: black, blue and white, while the Jordan Cadence is presented with a neutral grey base, matching neatly with the mood of the apparel: a simple, everyday vibe with a modern twist.

There’s many shoes out there. I want everyone to have it who wants to have it. But it’s hard because so many people buy them just to make money. And I don’t like that. And sometimes it’s good to work hard to get a sneaker, because otherwise you won’t buy it. – explains Hiroshi Fujiwara for GQ magazine.

Travis Scott Collaboration

Having three minds is greater than one! Last July, Jordan Brand, Travis Scott and Hiroshi Fujiwara’s Fragment Design have collaborated on the highly coveted Air Jordan 1 silhouette. Both the rapper and the designer have reworked the AJ1 in the past.

The collaborative Air Jordan 1 Low comes in Fragment’s signature color blocking schemes, with Scott’s special touch for his Air Jordan 1 designs – a backward Swoosh. The sneaker features a fresh Military Blue accents on the heel, collar and insole, the aged midsole with matching Sail laces. It’s a completely new flavor for a classic silhouette. To make sure everyone knows what you’re wearing, Cactus Jack and Fragment Design logos are embossed on the left and right heels.

The high top model features the same blue, black and off white color scheme, but positioned a bit differently. The sole stays the same, while the top comes in military blue color, with white body and a black reversed Swoosh.
