Maison Valentino has unveiled L’Atelier Sonore, a new project that brings together fashion, acoustics, and spatial design. Located on the mezzanine floor of the brand’s Madison Avenue boutique in New York, the space introduces a quiet zone for reflection, deep listening, and dialogue with sound. This experience forms part of Creative Director Alessandro Michele’s wider vision for the house, centered on redefining physical and sensory environments.
Valentino developed the space in collaboration with Terraforma, a Milan-based cultural platform known for experimental music and ecological awareness. Sound designer Giorgio Di Salvo shaped the custom soundscapes, while architect Francesco Lupia contributed to the layout and physical build. Together, they created a focused environment consisting of three main elements: a high-end audio system, a custom-built listening console inspired by traditional cabinet-making, and upholstered seating with velvet cushions.
The result feels precise and tactile. Each piece in the room supports the act of listening, physically, sonically, and visually. The materials and finishes recall early avant-garde listening salons, with rich textures and thoughtful construction anchoring the atmosphere.
Inside the space, visitors engage with curated sound in an environment stripped of distraction. The sound system encourages focus, and the room’s proportions support quiet engagement. With no large crowd or visual noise, the structure gives sound the lead role.
Valentino designed the experience for visitors to reflect and absorb, whether alone or as part of a programmed session. Each aspect, furniture, layout, sonic design, works to support that purpose. The console allows guests to interact directly with the equipment, while the seating and acoustics create a contained and layered sound field.
To mark the opening on May 15, Valentino and Terraforma have curated a 10-hour series of listening sessions featuring global artists connected to New York’s music culture. The program includes contributions from Laurel Halo, Laraaji, and Chuquimamani-Condori. Each artist will hold an intimate 45-minute session, sharing personal records, anecdotes, and moments of sound with a limited group of guests.
Between sessions, Terraforma’s specially designed playlist for Valentino continues to play, maintaining a consistent sonic mood. Those interested in attending can register starting May 9 through Valentino’s official channels. Entry will be limited, creating an intimate, unhurried atmosphere.
From May 16 through the end of August, L’Atelier Sonore will remain open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Visitors can step into the space, select records, and spend time with the curated music library. Occasionally, friends of the House will host new listening sessions, offering fresh sound experiences and selections. Valentino sees this space as an active zone, not a static installation. Through ongoing programming and shifting playlists, the space will evolve over the summer, with every session shaped by those who enter.
