Pininfarina, the legendary Italian design house, makes its architectural debut in Rio de Janeiro with Atto Design by Pininfarina, a boutique residential project developed in partnership with Origem Incorporadora. Limited to just 20 exclusive residences, Atto is set to redefine luxury living in the city’s rapidly evolving Barra de Tijuca district, blending contemporary design with the soul of Rio.
Atto Design a Sculptural Tribute to Rio’s Essence
Atto is conceived as more than a residence; it’s a sculptural homage to Rio’s multifaceted identity. The architecture draws directly from the city’s iconic landscapes, the flowing silhouette of Sugarloaf Mountain, the undulating coastlines of Copacabana and Ipanema, and the terraced hills that shape the city’s rhythm. “The sweeping curves of Sugarloaf and the undulating lines of Ipanema and Copacabana inspired forms that echo the rhythm of the ocean, complemented by materials taken from nature, such as stone, wood, and lush tropical vegetation,” explains Samuele Sordi, Chief Architect Officer at Pininfarina of America, in his interview for ARCHISCENE.
The stepped form of the building mirrors the terraced hills and the tempo of Rio’s urban life, balancing visual elegance with emotional depth. Fluid lines, sweeping terraces, and rich textures reference the region’s artisanal legacy, from mosaic-inspired geometry to the rhythmic patterns of Roberto Burle Marx. “The vibrant spirit of samba and bossa nova is reflected in the city’s soul, seen in the dynamic, fluid lines of Atto that evoke movement and celebration,” Sordi adds.

Nature and Architecture in Seamless Harmony with Atto Design
Atto’s façade is envisioned as a vertical landscape, with cascading layers of greenery offering privacy, shade, and a direct connection to Rio’s tropical environment. This organic integration transforms the building into a living part of the ecosystem. “Atto intentionally invites the city’s surrounding natural environment into its design through the integration of fluid lines, sweeping terraces, and rich textures. The visual language of the surrounding environment is reflected in the building’s vertical landscape, creating a peaceful, nature-filled sanctuary for residents,” says Sordi.
Residences range from approximately 450 m² to over 1,100 m², each opening onto panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and Rio’s mountains. Expansive spatial volumes, natural light, and ocean breezes create a living experience that deepens the emotional connection between residents and their surroundings. “The expansive spatial volumes and abundance of natural lighting found in the residences allow for a profound and continuous connection with Barra de Tijuca’s beautiful natural elements,” Sordi notes.
A New Standard of Luxury in Barra de Tijuca
Strategically located in Barra de Tijuca, Atto is at the heart of Rio’s contemporary expansion, a district where relaxed beach living meets world-class amenities, luxury malls, international schools, vibrant gastronomy, and untouched nature reserves. “Barra de Tijuca blends an energetic urban lifestyle with raw natural elements, making it an ideal home for a new set of luxury living innovations,” Sordi remarks.
Atto embodies Pininfarina’s vision of new luxury: clarity, simplicity, and seamless harmony with nature. High-end materials, wellness-focused amenities, and bespoke elements define each residence, setting a new benchmark for sophisticated, environmentally attuned living in Brazil.

A Collaborative Masterpiece
The project is the result of a close partnership between Pininfarina and Origem Incorporadora. Henrique Blecher, CEO of Origem, describes the collaboration as “an immense honor, not only due to my longstanding admiration for the automotive world, but also for the brand’s visionary spirit and remarkable versatility.” The aim was to create a multicultural, functional, and transformative design philosophy, resulting in a true masterpiece that transcends aesthetics and delivers meaning, innovation, and a truly immersive experience.

Legacy for the City
Atto is more than a building; it’s a lasting legacy for Rio de Janeiro, a sculptural celebration of the city’s contrasts, culture, and connection to nature. “Atto represents far more than a new residential development, but acts as a sculptural homage to the legacy of Rio. The integration of rich cultural design elements and strategic inclusions that take inspiration from the surrounding natural landscape showcases that residential living can have a significant impact on a community,” concludes Sordi.
