Luxury house Dior introduces the Saltwind sneaker, a new design informed by original canvas shoes worn by US Marines aboard boats. The model draws from this reference point and reworks it through the house’s design language, focusing on form, material, and construction. The result presents a casual silhouette shaped by historical function and updated through refined finishes.

The Saltwind sneakers revisit key elements of the original shoe, including its flexible rubber sole. Dior adapts this feature to support ease of wear while maintaining the structure of the design. The silhouette features a rounded shape and a wide fit, aligning with Jonathan Anderson’s visual direction. This approach emphasizes comfort while maintaining a distinct profile.

Material selection defines the range, with each version offering a different interpretation of the design. Options include black and vintage Dior Oblique jacquard, as well as gray and green nubuck. Additional variations appear in canvas, embroidered with symbols associated with the founding couturier, including four-leaf clovers and floral motifs. These details introduce graphic elements that connect the sneaker to Dior’s visual language.

Two additional versions extend the lineup. One features blue and orange embroidery, while another introduces a metallic houndstooth pattern on beige wool. These variations expand the material and surface treatments across the collection, offering further contrast within the same silhouette.

Construction details reinforce the identity of the sneaker. Contrasting grosgrain stitching defines the edges, adding texture and structure. Branding through subtle placements, with the word “Dior” placed on the heel and repeated on a square label sewn onto the tongue. These elements integrate branding into the design without interrupting the overall composition.

The Saltwind sneaker presents a reinterpretation of a functional shoe through Dior’s approach to design. By drawing from marine references and combining them with varied materials and finishes, the model establishes a clear connection between past utility and current construction. The collection introduces multiple versions that maintain a consistent shape while exploring surface variation across fabrics, embroidery, and detailing.
