China Airlines introduces a new aircraft that brings character-driven design into commercial aviation. The Taiwan-based carrier revealed the Pikachu Jet CI2, its second collaboration with The Pokémon Company, built on an Airbus A350-900 platform. The aircraft enters service on April 2, starting with routes between Taoyuan and Tokyo Narita, as well as Taoyuan and Seattle. The launch aligns with the arrival of spring, shaping the concept of travel as a seasonal experience filled with lightness and movement.

The exterior livery sets the tone through a sequence of thirteen Pokémon arranged in motion across the fuselage. Hoppip leads the composition, signaling the seasonal shift, followed by Flying Pikachu and Jumpluff. Dratini appears alongside Dragonite, while Beautifly and Vivillon reference Taiwan’s identity as the Butterfly Kingdom. Swablu and Altaria extend the sense of flight, with Skiploom, Cresselia, and Clefairy completing the composition. The arrangement reads as a continuous visual narrative that follows the aircraft’s length.

Color and pattern play a central role in defining the aircraft’s presence. A pastel palette softens the scale of the A350-900, while decorative tile motifs introduce a direct reference to Taiwanese craft traditions. The use of auspicious cloud and floral patterns connects the design to cultural symbols associated with happiness and good fortune. These details repeat across the fuselage, creating a layered surface that shifts depending on light and viewing distance. The airline’s plum blossom logo remains visible on the tail, anchoring the design within its existing identity.

Inside the aircraft, the concept continues through a series of small but consistent interventions. Tray mats, paper cups, headrest covers, pillowcases, and packaged snacks carry Pokémon graphics, extending the experience beyond the exterior. Each element introduces a moment of discovery, encouraging passengers to notice details throughout the flight. The airline also includes limited items such as Pikachu-themed pens and stationery, reinforcing the sense of occasion tied to this specific aircraft.
China Airlines plans to expand these elements across selected routes beyond the initial launch. Flights to destinations including Phoenix, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Auckland, Osaka, and Bangkok will gradually incorporate themed amenities. This approach allows the concept to move across the network while maintaining the Pikachu Jet CI2 as a central reference point.

With this release, China Airlines positions design as part of the travel experience rather than a surface gesture. The project connects branding, cultural reference, and passenger interaction within a single aircraft, creating a consistent visual and spatial identity that carries from ground to air.
