Michiko Koshino presented her Spring Summer 2018 menswear collection, inspired by the designer’s childhood memories of Japanese baseball teams of the 40’s & 50’s, collection is a mixture of contemporary and historic aesthetics.
“Thick tartans and pinstripes are teamed with lightweight, cut-away nylons and tight cottons touching on sporting attire from both modern-day and the golden-age of the majestic sport. The unconventional silhouettes, typical of Michiko’s atelier, showcase the designer’s in-depth understanding of pattern-cutting. By challenging and distorting both the various fabrics used as well as the proportions of the body, this season, like many from Michiko before, showcases the deep understanding of the designer’s craft.
A strongly themed collection, much like those seen from Koshino in the early 90’s, Spring Summer 2018 marks a familiar presence on the London Fashion Week calendar – having been one of the first brands to feature in the earliest days of the scheme. A footwear collaboration with brand Good News completes the collection, with specially created baseball themed sneakers for SS18.“
