French fashion house CHANEL unveiled its Fall Winter 2024.25 Haute Couture Collection with a spectacular presentation that paid tribute to the iconic Palais Garnier in Paris. This venue, renowned for its opulence and history in both the fashion world and Chanel’s legacy, served as the perfect backdrop for a collection that exudes sophistication, luxury, and theatrical elegance.
The collection, orchestrated by the Fashion Creation Studio, transformed the outside corridors surrounding the auditorium into red velvet opera boxes, creating an immersive experience that renewed perceptions of the Palais Garnier. This transformation was brought to life by the French director Christophe Honoré, who designed the set to blend the worlds of haute couture and opera.
The collection features a rich array of materials and textures, including feathers, tassels, cabochons, embroidered flowers, precious braids, lacquered jersey, supple tweeds, silky velvet, illusion tulle, taffeta, and duchesse satin. These opulent fabrics rustle delicately as models move, embodying the essence of elegance and romance. The volumes are airy, with puffed sleeves and pleated flounces adding a dynamic touch to the silhouettes.
One standout piece is a Chanel suit with box pleats, reimagined in burgundy tweed and trimmed with white satin. This piece exemplifies the collection’s blend of tradition and modernity. Another highlight is a black corduroy tuxedo paired with a white blouse featuring an embroidered plastron, showcasing Chanel’s expertise in balancing masculine and feminine elements. A black suit with a long culotte and a short, fitted jacket adorned with black feathers on the shoulders brings a touch of drama to the collection, while long coats, voluminous capes, and evening gowns evoke a sense of grandeur and pageantry.
The color palette for this collection is both rich and nuanced, featuring shades of black, gold, silver, ivory, fuchsia, pale pink, and celadon. These colors hint at the most splendid of soirées, reflecting the grandeur and elegance of the Palais Garnier. The interplay of matte, glossy, and lacquered finishes creates a dynamic visual experience, with light playing a central role in bringing out the beauty of the garments.
Chanel’s deep involvement with the Opéra national de Paris and the Ballet de l’Opéra is evident in this collection. As Major Patron of the Opéra since 2023 and Patron of the Ballet since 2021, Chanel’s history is intertwined with the world of dance. The collection pays homage to this legacy with nods to iconic ballets such as Le Train Bleu (1924) and Apollon Musagète (1928), for which Gabrielle Chanel created revolutionary costumes. Tutu-inspired dresses, Pierrot outfits, and gowns fit for divas, princesses, and brides bring a sense of theatricality and movement to the collection.
The technical expertise, virtuosity, and sensitivity of the Chanel Haute Couture ateliers are showcased in every piece of the collection. These ateliers, located at 31 rue Cambon next to the Chanel Fashion Creation Studio and close to the Palais Garnier, are home to around 150 skilled artisans. Their dedication and craftsmanship are evident in the intricate details and exquisite finishes of the garments.
The Chanel Fall Winter 2024.25 Haute Couture collection highlights the brand’s ability to blend tradition with modernity, creating pieces that are both timeless and contemporary. The collection captures the essence of the Palais Garnier, with its rich history and sense of grandeur.
did not expect virginie viard will have already nothing to do with this collection, this seems quite abrupt for Chanel to be honest… and not the best farewell to viard who sticked with the brand for decades =/
