Netflix has confirmed a new screen adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, with writer Dolly Alderton leading the project as screenwriter and executive producer. The series, a six-part limited run, will feature Emma Corrin as Elizabeth Bennet, Jack Lowden as Mr. Darcy, and Olivia Colman as Mrs. Bennet. Filming is set to begin in the UK later this year.
This new version of Pride and Prejudice will remain closely aligned with the original novel by Jane Austen, maintaining the historical setting and tone. Alderton, known for her bestselling memoir Everything I Know About Love, will reinterpret Austen’s text for the screen with direction from Euros Lyn, whose recent work includes Heartstopper. The adaptation comes at a time when Austen’s work continues to generate interest among producers and audiences alike.

Corrin, whose past roles include performances in Black Mirror and Lady Chatterley’s Lover, described taking on the part of Elizabeth Bennet as an extraordinary opportunity. “To bring this character to life, especially alongside Jack and Olivia, is a privilege,” Corrin said in a statement. Their involvement in the project also includes an executive producer credit – a first in Corrin’s career.
The casting of Jack Lowden, recently seen in Slow Horses and Benediction, brings a contemporary weight to the role of Darcy. Meanwhile, Colman – a veteran of period drama through her performances in The Favourite and The Crown – steps into the role of the ever-anxious Mrs. Bennet.
Alderton emphasized her respect for Austen’s original prose while writing the script. “Austen’s novel offers so much in terms of humor, complexity, and social dynamics,” she said. “The process of adapting it has involved finding ways to preserve those qualities while creating a version that feels immediate and accessible.”

The production is being developed by Lookout Point, the UK-based studio known for Gentleman Jack and War & Peace. Executive producers include Laura Lankester, Will Johnston, and Louise Mutter, alongside Alderton, Corrin, and director Euros Lyn. Lisa Osborne, whose past projects include Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light, joins as producer.
Netflix’s Vice President of Content for the UK, Mona Qureshi, acknowledged the continued relevance of Pride and Prejudice. “This novel has had a long life in British culture, and Dolly’s version respects that history while giving space to new ideas. The cast speaks for itself, and with Euros Lyn directing, it’s in very capable hands.”
Since its publication in 1813, Pride and Prejudice has become one of the most recognized works in English literature. Its commentary on class, marriage, and gender has inspired a range of adaptations across film, theatre, and television. This latest version marks Netflix’s first full-scale production of the novel.
Production on the series is scheduled to begin later in 2025 in the UK. The project aims to engage both long-time Austen readers and those encountering the characters for the first time.
