Art Basel will plant its flag in Doha in February 2026, introducing its first fair in the Middle East through a partnership with Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), QC+, and its parent company MCH Group. The new venture, Art Basel Qatar, will take place across the M7 creative hub and the Doha Design District in Msheireb, bringing together regional and international voices in modern and contemporary art.

The initiative arrives at a time when Qatar is intensifying its cultural output, with museums, biennials, and design hubs redefining its capital’s profile as an arts destination. The fair will focus on a tightly curated format in its first edition, spotlighting artists and galleries from the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, and beyond. Art Basel Qatar promises to function as a long-term cultural force with programming, public engagement, and strategic development efforts extending year-round.

The move reflects the influence of Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums, whose leadership has elevated Qatar’s cultural presence on the international stage. From landmark institutions like the National Museum of Qatar to forthcoming projects such as the Art Mill Museum and Lusail Museum, Qatar continues to position itself as a creative force with global ambition. “We have built a thriving ecosystem of culture and sports, harnessing the capacity of both to break down barriers, create shared experiences, increase understanding and drive positive change,” said Her Excellency.
For QSI, the partnership also underscores a larger vision that connects culture and sport. “As that event [the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™] demonstrated so unforgettably, sports and culture are closely linked in their capacity to unite people and bring the world together,” said His Excellency Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, QSI Chairman. He emphasized the lasting legacy of the World Cup as a platform for expanding Qatar’s influence in cultural sectors.

QC+, a key player in the new venture, brings a wealth of curatorial and design experience to the table, having supported the growth of Qatar’s cultural infrastructure in recent years. Known for its expertise in exhibition-making and audience engagement, the collective helps frame Art Basel Qatar as a catalyst for future talent and collector networks in the region.
From Art Basel’s side, the new Doha fair becomes the fifth in its portfolio after Basel, Miami Beach, Hong Kong, and Paris. According to Art Basel CEO Noah Horowitz, the decision reflects a growing awareness of the MENA region’s influence in the global art market. “Qatar’s depth of collections, history of building great cultural institutions and unique role as an incubator and supporter of talent position the new Art Basel Qatar for success on the world stage,” he said.
The debut of Art Basel Qatar marks a significant milestone in the global art calendar. It will introduce fresh regional perspectives to the fair’s international audience while reinforcing Qatar’s position as a cultural node between East and West. As 2026 approaches, all eyes will turn to Msheireb to see how this collaboration redefines the next chapter of global art discourse.
