Fashion brand SHUSHU/TONG presented its Spring Summer 2026 collection during Shanghai Fashion Week, exploring beauty through imperfection. Photographer Junri Kamiwaki captured the backstage atmosphere of the show, held at the Shanghai Exhibition Center, exclusively for DSCENE Magazine. Take a peek behind the curtain of one of China’s most anticipated presentations this season.
The collection, designed by Liushu Lei and Yutong Jiang, drew inspiration from Agnès Varda’s 1962 film Cléo from 5 to 7. The line “As long as I’m beautiful, I’m alive” became the collection’s anchor, setting a reflective tone that guided both fabric choice and construction. The designers used clothing to question the surface of beauty, what it conceals and what it reveals.

Aged cotton formed the foundation of the collection, treated through dyeing and distressing to evoke the passage of time. Leather appeared in fitted cocktail dresses and panel skirts, giving structure to otherwise fluid silhouettes. Lace introduced a more vulnerable layer, often worn over undergarments or cropped knits, creating transparency and tension within the same look. The mix of raw and refined materials defined the mood.

The palette shifted from faded whites and soft blues to darker tones of brown and black. Embroidery, exposed seams, and glass-bead detailing added irregular rhythm to the garments, giving them a sense of real use and imperfection. Each look appeared slightly undone, yet deeply considered, reflecting the duo’s skill in controlling disorder without overdesigning it. Accessories produced in collaboration with YVMIN carried the same balance of fragility and edge, with chain-linked lace bags and square-toed Mary Janes reinforcing the theme.
