Mugler introduces The Commander, its Fall Winter 2026 campaign starring Vivian Jenna Wilson and photographed by Robi Rodriguez. Presented through a series of cinematic tableaux, the campaign examines power, desire and eroticism while developing ideas introduced through Miguel Castro Freitas’ second runway collection for the house.

AD CAMPAIGNS

The collection forms the second chapter in Castro Freitas’ Trilogy of Glorified Clichés, an ongoing exploration of archetypes associated with the Mugler universe and its focus on womanity. The Commander turns specifically toward power dressing, treating its familiar codes as armour and performance while questioning the authority traditionally attached to them.

“Power dressing has always been part of Mugler’s language, but I wanted to look beyond the obvious idea of authority,” says Castro Freitas. “What interests me is the seduction of power – why we are attracted to these symbols, and what happens when we decide to take them back for ourselves.”

Rodriguez translates that premise into images with an art-house sensibility. The campaign creates a theatrical and hedonistic atmosphere with an underlying sense of danger. Wilson occupies different roles throughout the series: she commands, watches, obeys and refuses.

The campaign treats vulnerability and authority as qualities that can change according to circumstance. Submission and control function as roles that someone can perform, exchange, use or enjoy. Wilson’s changing behavior gives these ideas a physical presence, placing questions of instinct and choice directly within the images.

The Commander repeatedly asks who holds authority, who accepts it and who observes it. The campaign also considers what happens when instinct disrupts an expected order. Through those questions, Mugler examines power as something unstable, capable of changing hands according to desire and individual action.

Castro Freitas also brings an untamed quality beneath the collection’s polished surface. Etiquette creates an exterior structure, while appetite remains underneath it. Desire escapes discipline and enters the campaign as an active force. The imagery pushes domination toward theatrical excess, creating room for beauty, eroticism and absurdity within the same visual language.

Freedom plays a central role in this interpretation. The collection connects it directly with an individual’s ability to claim power and determine how to use it. The campaign places that idea within Wilson’s shifting positions, where authority never depends on a single fixed role.

This approach continues Castro Freitas’ examination of familiar Mugler archetypes through his Trilogy of Glorified Clichés. With The Commander, he takes the established vocabulary of power dressing and studies the attraction attached to its symbols, along with the possibilities that emerge when women claim those symbols for themselves.
