Sean Wotherspoon returns with a new concept-driven footwear line, launching Sean Double U in collaboration with Zellerfeld, the 3D-printed shoe-maker known for pushing material and design innovation. The American designer, recognized for his work with adidas, Gap, and Porsche, continues to rethink the way sneakers function, this time by removing traditional constraints entirely.

The collection features two silhouettes: one sneaker designed for motion, and one mule designed for comfort. “Sean Double U is about the different sides we all have,” Wotherspoon said. “The sneaker is for motion. The mule is for slowing down. I wanted pieces that move with every version of you.” Both shoes reflect this dual focus, pairing streamlined design with function-first intent.

Wotherspoon and Zellerfeld didn’t rely on conventional manufacturing. Instead, each pair is 3D-printed from a single recyclable material. The process cuts out stitching, glue, and mass production facilities. This gives the shoes a clear visual consistency and a structural simplicity that aligns with the way they’re meant to function, responsive to individual pace and purpose.

The designer emphasized the freedom that Zellerfeld’s platform offers. “Most companies tell you what you cannot do,” Wotherspoon said. “Zellerfeld built a stack where you design what you want, when you want. We could tweak a design in the morning and hold a prototype by the afternoon.” That speed, he added, changes the process for designers who often lack access to manufacturing systems that support experimentation.

The Sean Double U line doesn’t follow seasonal drops or stock-based retail models. Each pair is made to order, based on a customer’s individual foot scan. This approach not only eliminates inventory waste but also ensures a custom fit. The digital scan process gives the shoes their distinct form, shaped entirely by the person wearing them.

The sneaker, priced at $189 USD, channels forward motion through its silhouette and structure, while the mule, at $149 USD, offers a pared-down design built for ease. Together, they reflect Wotherspoon’s ongoing interest in modularity and everyday movement.

Wotherspoon’s design background spans sneaker collaborations and vintage collecting, and this release connects both instincts. The shoes echo simplicity in shape, but the process behind them reflects a future-forward approach, one where personal data drives design, and innovation skips the traditional supply chain entirely.

The Sean Double U collection is now available on Zellerfeld’s online store. Customers can complete a foot scan to start the custom-fit process and choose between the two silhouettes.
