Prime Video sets September 10, 2025, for the launch of The Girlfriend and releases key art and trailer to mark the date. The platform will make all six episodes available the same day in more than 240 countries and territories. The series adapts Michelle Frances’ bestselling novel, delivering a tightly wound psychological drama anchored by two powerhouse performances from Robin Wright and Olivia Cooke.
Wright takes on the role of Laura, a woman whose life appears enviable: a thriving career, a stable marriage, and an unshakable bond with her son, Daniel. That carefully constructed stability begins to fracture when Daniel introduces his new girlfriend, Cherry, played by Cooke. Their first meeting sets an uneasy tone. Laura senses hidden motives in Cherry’s charm and begins probing into her past. Whether she’s uncovering dangerous ambition or projecting her own fears remains an open question that drives the tension through the series.
The core cast brings together a mix of established talent and rising names. Laurie Davidson plays Daniel, whose loyalties face constant testing. Waleed Zuaiter appears as Howard, Tanya Moodie as Isabella, Shalom Brune-Franklin as Brigitte, and Karen Henthorn as Tracey. Anna Chancellor takes the role of Lilith, Leo Suter plays Nicholas, and Francesca Corney portrays Millie. Their characters form the personal and social web that complicates Laura’s search for the truth.
Imaginarium Productions and Amazon MGM Studios produce the series. Jonathan Cavendish and Caroline Norris serve as producers. The executive producer team includes Robin Wright, Will Tennant, Phil Robertson, John Zois, Dave Clarke, Gabbie Asher, and Michelle Frances.
Naomi Sheldon and Gabbie Asher lead the adaptation for television. The writers’ room includes Sheldon and Asher alongside Polly Cavendish, Helen Kingston, Marek Horn, Ava Wong Davies, Isis Davis, Smita Bhide, and Matt Evans. This team shapes a six-part structure that keeps focus on motive, opportunity, and the shifting bonds between parent, child, and partner.
Prime Video positions The Girlfriend as a concentrated psychological drama with a clear hook: a mother tests a newcomer’s intentions while her son navigates love and loyalty. With all episodes available on day one, viewers can watch the standoff develop in a single sitting or follow the unraveling over the course of the week.
