Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma continues Schoenbrun’s exploration of themes connected to trans identity and queer horror. Their previous feature, I Saw the TV Glow, premiered at Sundance in 2024 and screened at Berlinale, San Sebastián, and SXSW. The film received multiple nominations at the 2025 Independent Spirit Awards, including Best Director, Best Lead Performance, and Best Feature.

The new film centers on a declining slasher franchise titled Camp Miasma. After years of sequels and waning audience interest, producers assign the franchise to a young director who seeks to revive it. When she visits the original film’s star, now reclusive and surrounded by mystery, the two women enter a violent environment shaped by desire, fear, and delirium. The narrative shifts from industry revival to psychological horror.
Jane Schoenbrun identifies as a filmmaker, writer, and curator. In addition to I Saw the TV Glow, they directed We’re All Going to the World’s Fair and the experimental documentary A Self-Induced Hallucination. I Saw the TV Glow earned six Independent Spirit Award nominations, including Best Picture, Screenplay, and Director, and also received three Gotham Award nominations.
Schoenbrun will publish their first novel, Public Access Afterworld, through Hogarth in 2026. They are also set to write, direct, and Executive Produce an adaptation of the graphic novel Black Hole as a television series for Netflix in collaboration with Plan B and New Regency.
Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma will arrive in cinemas on August 7, 2026.
