Home improvement projects can dig a hole in your pocket. Many homeowners hire the service of professionals even just doing simple home improvement tasks. If you are willing to do it by yourself, then you could end up saving tons of money. There are a few home improvement projects that you can safely do on your own. These are the following.

Read more after the jump:

1. Update your countertop

You don’t need to be a pro to be able to update your countertop. In fact, you don’t need to use expensive materials to upgrade your countertop. You can just add some designing details such as applying fresh paint or adding a wooden fixture. It all boils down to being creative and resourceful.

2. Update your cabinet

When it comes to updating the cabinets, many homeowners would shy away because they know how expensive such a home improvement project is. But don’t you know you can give your cabinet an extra glow by simply applying new paint? You might also add new knobs and pulls. It might need some skills but don’t worry as there are available video tutorials. Just follow them and you can easily ace the job.

3. Install a backsplash

You can give your kitchen an added glow by simply installing a backsplash. You might think that installing a backsplash is labor extensive but in reality, it is not. You just need to have the right tools, designing details, and patience.

4. Refinish hardwood flooring

If your floor is made from hardwood, eventually, its luster will fade with time. You can give your floor a new life by refinishing it. Fortunately, you can do wood refinishing on your own.

5. Dress up your doorways, windows, and stairway

If your window, stairway, or doorway is looking plain, you can add some spice by installing molding around the opening. For the stairway, you can incorporate an inline design. It provides stainless steel railing in both bar and tube profiles. You can also choose from the available design systems like glass, bar, and cable railing. Such types of materials can be easily installed in your existing stairway. You can also install them in other areas of the house.

6. Paint the garage flooring

Some areas of the house are prone to abuse and one of them is the garage floor. It is now time to transform your garage floor into something more inviting. Give it a bit of tender loving care by simply coating it with new paint. It is the most economical and practical solution for old and uninviting garage floor.

7. Consider replacing your banister

A broken handrail is an eyesore. In fact, it is dangerous too. It affects both the aesthetic and safety components of your home. Fortunately, you can easily fix this kind of problem. If you are not the DIY buff, then do not worry as you can surely figure things out by following video tutorials.

Updating your home does not need to be expensive. A bit of creativity and resourcefulness can help you go a long way.
