Academy Award winner Michael B. Jordan returns to the director’s chair for a new version of The Thomas Crown Affair, bringing the art heist story back to cinemas in 2027. The project marks his first time directing since Creed III and his first live action film after the Oscar winning Sinners. The opening trailer frames the thriller through international locations, valuable art, tense pursuit and a central relationship that carries attraction and suspicion.

The Thomas Crown Affair already carries a strong screen history. Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway led the 1968 film, while Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo took over the story three decades later. Jordan now becomes the third major actor to play Thomas Crown and takes direct control of the new version. That choice places considerable attention on how he handles a property that two previous films established through star power, romance and elaborate theft.
Jordan gives this Thomas Crown a clearer motive for stealing valuable art. The trailer suggests that Crown takes works in order to return them to their rightful creators. This approach shifts him toward the role of a modern Robin Hood and gives the heists a moral purpose. The character still operates through confidence, wealth and careful planning, yet his objective changes the meaning behind each theft.
Adria Arjona plays a former FBI agent pursuing Crown. Their scenes introduce the film’s romantic tension as professional suspicion develops alongside personal attraction. The trailer treats that relationship as a central source of pressure, with each character testing the other while the investigation continues.
Kenneth Branagh appears in another villain role, adding a direct threat beyond the investigation. The trailer also shows formal tailoring, international settings and large action sequences. These elements recall the polished tone of earlier versions and point toward a different motive for the central thief.
Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira and Pilou Asbæk join Jordan, Arjona and Branagh in the cast. Drew Pearce, whose credits include The Fall Guy and Hotel Artemis, wrote the screenplay with Jason Hall, the writer of American Sniper. The production also filmed the project for IMAX to match the scale of its locations, action and art theft sequences. The Thomas Crown Affair will arrive in cinemas in 2027.
