Coachtopia's innovative series sheds light on circular fashion practices

Coachtopia The Road to Circularity

Coachtopia, a visionary initiative of Coach, has launched “The Road to Circularity,” docuseries that explores the evolving world of circular fashion. This series, premiered on January 10th, with its first episode, is hosted by Aditi Mayer, a visual storyteller and sustainable fashion advocate who is a part of the Coachtopia community. The docuseries is a bold exploration of the complex challenges and exciting possibilities within the global fashion industry, aiming to illuminate aspects often left unseen.

Joon Silverstein, SVP of Global Marketing and Sustainability at Coach, and the Head of Coachtopia, emphasizes the significance of transparency in fashion, especially for the younger generation. “The Road to Circularity” is an initiative to open up new conversations, explore the challenges of the industry, and reimagine fashion narratives and systems with a focus on circularity. It’s about taking bold steps, even if they’re imperfect, to address climate change and create a more sustainable future.

The first episode, titled “Making with Waste,” takes viewers to Chennai, India, where Mayer visits KH Exports, a leather manufacturing company that has collaborated with Coach since 1987. Coachtopia has challenged KH Exports to repurpose Coach’s leather waste into a unique material. The episode beautifully captures the journey of waste leather, from sorting to prototyping and production, highlighting the passion and creativity of the local community of designers and craftspeople.

Viewers are introduced to Coachtopia’s Upcrushed™ Upcrafted Leather, a material made from leather scraps combined using heat and pressure, resulting in a unique suede-like texture and pattern.

“The Road to Circularity” will continue to share impactful stories like these, aiming to accelerate change by challenging prevailing narratives in fashion production and consumption. Mayer’s insights reveal how circularity requires changes across the entire supply chain and a cultural shift to redefine the concept of waste.

Produced by Special Order and directed by Christina Burchard, Episode 1 of “The Road to Circularity” is available on Coachtopia’s social channels, with subsequent episodes to follow later in the year.

Coachtopia, launched in April 2023, is a sub-brand of Coach focused on circular craft and collaborative creativity. It represents Coach’s commitment to a circular business model, leveraging over 80 years of leather expertise. Coachtopia aims to reduce the creation of new materials by crafting with waste and designing products for multiple lifecycles.
