Fashion brand MARNI teams up with American singer-songwriter Erykah Badu for the Fall Winter 2023 Vol.1 Limited Edition Capsule Collection that fuses the house’s artisanal values with musician’s singular aesthetic. The MARNI x ERYKAH BADU collection features women’s ready-to-wear, accessories and footwear, and it was design to be seen, touched and heard. The Maison’s creative director Francesco Risso and Badu created outwear that is an expression of color, texture and light, knitwear that brings warmth and comfort, and tailoring that is curious, expressive and uniquely sensual, while accessories reflect individualistic maximalism. The Capsule also features Marni’s interpretation of Erykah Badu’s iconic hats. The collection is part of Marni Jam, the multidisciplinary program that engages members of the brand’s growing community in dynamic, unexpected and experimental dialogues and exercises. Fashion photographer Sergio Cattivelli captured the campaign in Dallas, Texas. In charge of art direction was Erykah Badu.
“A metallic gold leather jacket is amplified with shearling accents done in a soft palette. Trenches with shearling collars are crafted from a mosaic of jewel-toned patchwork leather. Dresses, skirts and shirts are fully embroidered with onyx, silver, gold and bronze sequins that catch the light and jingle as they move. Fluid satin dresses are spliced with panels of multi-colored velvet. Tailored jackets are cut with strong, oversized shoulders and constructed from bold, color-blocked contrasts of dry-hand wools, soft calfskin and suede. Oversized striped, knit capes and blankets wrap the body in a soulful, sensual gesture, and raw-edged sweaters flash glimpses of flesh.” – from Marni
