Fashion brand SIMON CRACKER presented its Spring Summer 2024 Collection that was inspired by the phrase, “One day I will go to live in theory, because it’s in theory that everything goes well.” The brand explores the domain of theory, where they flourish, discovering a myriad of exciting elements. There was a book that, while technically an encyclopedia, was unreadable in practice. A doll designed to be Barbie’s rival that ended up scaring children. A seemingly pleasant and joyous community that, in reality, had evolved into a jail where people were reduced to numbers. And a piece of music that was thought to be evil, but in actuality brought people from all walks of life together.
SPRING SUMMER 2024 COLLECTIONS
The collection is a paradox, a joyful jumble with an ominous undertone. It’s a patchwork of textiles that were once thought “too ugly” and stored away, but have now been given new life. Acid house t-shirts with altered smiles clash with striped patterns and exquisite “bon ton” trench coats inspired by ‘The Prisoner,’ a mind-bending 1960s TV series. Cyanotype prints based on the ‘Codex Seraphinianus‘ compete with the disturbing faces of Blythe dolls, while Lalaloopsies dangle from whimsically disorganized bags. The brand also included a small selection of “merch” objects in the process of upcycling and creating one-of-a-kind clothes, which should be less “scary” and more commercially acceptable.
Simon Cracker was accompanied by valuable collaborators on their voyage into the realm of theory. Two outstanding fashion students, Iris Indrigo and Tommaso Pila, created one look each. Tee-share‘s Francesca Mitolo provided a range of customizable t-shirts. Giovanni Mareschi of Laboratorio Riciclo Pelle created three exclusive pieces for the season. Da Quy‘s Enrica Ramill provided footwear, while Stellina Fabbri and Michela Crippa generously gave their bijoux deadstock.
