LOEWE just unveiled “Crafted World,” its major exhibition, set to open at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre in Spring 2024. The subject of the show is the brand’s heritage, Spanish roots, craftsmanship. Organized by LOEWE’s Creative Director, Jonathan Anderson, this exhibition focuses on the brand’s journey from its inception as a leather-making collective in Madrid in 1846, to its status as a global luxury fashion leader.
With 178 years of the brands existence, “Crafted World” follows significant milestones in its history—its role as a purveyor to the Spanish Royal Crown, its integration into the LVMH family, the establishment of the LOEWE Foundation, the launch of its first store in China in 2001, and the revitalization under Jonathan Anderson’s vision, including the creation of the LOEWE Foundation Craft Prize.
Occupying 1,600 square meters of the Shanghai Exhibition Centre, “Crafted World” promises an engaging exploration of time, space, materials, and artisanal methods. Visitors will encounter an interactive space that not only showcases the house’s artistic collaborations and designs but also offers a wider sensory experience. Highlighting the significance of handcrafted artistry, the exhibition will feature a global community of artisans—from Indian ribbon weavers and Ecuadorian tapestry makers to South African basket weavers and Chinese bamboo crafters—each contributing to the narrative.
This exhibition, which runs from 22 March to 5 May 2024 before continuing on a global tour, invites the public to take a closer look at LOEWE’s craft culture, free of charge.
