Matières Fécales Bridal Debut for Gabbriette’s Wedding

Gabbriette married Matty Healy of The 1975 at a private estate in Los Angeles wearing not one, but three custom looks by Matières Fécales. The occasion marked a milestone for the Paris-based design collective: their first venture into bridal, and a statement about where they place their values. They didn’t debut with a house bride selected for prestige or Instagram potential. They created for someone who understands their language entirely.

The designers shared in a statement: “It was an honour and privilege to create three couture bridal looks for the fearless beauty Gabbriette for her wedding. We are grateful our first time doing bridal was for such an inspiring and unique bride like Gabbriette. She sees beauty the same way we do. It all started with a DM followed by 30 sketches from Steven on a plane ride and after over 5 months of hard work with our petit atelier of devoted dress makers, we are so proud to create such beauty for someone we admire deeply.”

The Three Looks

“Leigh,” the pre-wedding moment: The designers sourced a vintage black gown from Gabbriette’s own closet, the kind of archive piece that speaks to personal style rather than trend. They layered it with soft white tulle, their signature déchiré technique creating movement from the hem and cascading through slashed cuts at the back. The contrast of black and white, the controlled destruction of the fabric, the formal silhouette interrupted by decay, it’s pure Matières Fécales. Paired with their curved pumps crated in collaboration with  Christian Louboutin.

It was an honour and privilege to create three couture bridal looks for the fearless beauty Gabbriette for her wedding. We are grateful our first time doing bridal was for such an inspiring and unique bride like Gabbriette. She sees beauty the same way we do.

“Gabriella,” the ceremony gown: White silk taffeta hand-pleated to construct the bodice, a triple bustle and train with déchiré tulle edges defining the back. A veil created in collaboration with milliner Stephen Jones. White tulle curved heel pumps by Christian Louboutin. The gown moves between structure and dissolution, between the formality demanded of bridal and the designers’ insistent deconstruction. It’s restraint and rebellion in the same silhouette.

“Healy,” the after-party set: A two-piece in buttery lamb leather with déchiré tulle and Mongolian fur at the sleeve and pant hems. A white satin riding hat, again in collaboration with Stephen Jones. White satin curved heel pumps. The shift from gown to suit is deliberate and complete, a rejection of bridal convention in favor of something entirely Gabbriette.

The Designer Perspective

For Hannah Åkerman and Steven Tai, founders of Matières Fécales, bridal represents an expansion that doesn’t dilute their vision. Their aesthetic, one rooted in deconstruction, contrast, and a refusal of perfection, has never required compromise. Gabbriette’s approach to her own image aligned entirely. She is not a bride trying on femininity for tradition’s sake. She is a model and vocalist (Nasty Cherry, formed by Charli xcx) with a visual sensibility as refined as it is unconventional. The pairing was inevitable.

The process, they explain, began with a direct message and 30 sketches delivered on a plane. Five months of development followed, executed by their atelier team in Paris. There’s an intimacy to that timeline, a sense of collaboration and craft that exists outside the industrial cycle of ready-to-wear. This was couture in the truest sense: made for one person, for one moment, with intention that extended far beyond the transaction.

It all started with a DM followed by 30 sketches from Steven on a plane ride and after over 5 months of hard work with our petit atelier of devoted dress makers, we are so proud to create such beauty for someone we admire deeply.

Gabbriette’s Role

Born Gabriella Bechtel in Orange County, Gabbriette has built a career that resists easy categorization. She is a model who has worked with Diesel, Bottega Veneta, and Skims. She is a musician who fronted the punk-adjacent project Nasty Cherry alongside visual culture figures like Charli xcx. She is an influencer with a following that amplifies her aesthetic choices. But more fundamentally, she is someone who understands the weight of a single image and its power to communicate identity.

Her choice of Matières Fécales for her wedding was not a sponsorship or a brand partnership. It was a recognition of kinship. Photos from the final fitting in Paris capture the intimacy of that collaboration. Gabbriette surrounded by her mother, Chayo Bechtel, and her best friend, Bailey Quinone. The gown being adjusted, the train being arranged, the veil positioned. These are behind-the-scenes moments, but they carry the weight of something rare: a designer’s debut in bridal unfolding not as spectacle or ego, but as craft and trust.
