Carlos Guzman positions Brown N Proud as a brand rooted in identity and connection. “Brown N Proud isn’t just a brand, it’s a reminder that our roots run deep, our culture is rich, and our people are powerful. We wear our story with pride,” he said.
Brown N Proud uses heavy-weight materials and direct visual language to center authenticity and resilience. Guzman formed the early idea for the brand in high school, inspired by Mexican music and culture. His designs reflect the pride he feels in his background and the responsibility he carries toward his community. He donates portions of proceeds to causes connected to his personal experience.

That sense of purpose aligns with the influence of Chalino Sánchez, whose work grew from lived experience and direct connection with listeners. Chalino Sánchez, born Rosalino Sánchez Félix on August 30, 1960, in Sinaloa, Mexico, built his career through persistence and storytelling. As a teenager, he fled to Tijuana and later moved into the United States. He worked various jobs in Los Angeles, often alongside his brother Armando.
After Armando’s murder in 1984 in Tijuana, Chalino wrote his first corrido, “Armando Sanchez,” as a tribute. He continued writing and developed growing recognition for his raw delivery and direct narratives. His work resonated with audiences across borders and shaped the rise of narcocorridos during a period when the genre carried significant risk.

He distributed his music independently, selling tapes to distributors and indie labels from his truck. His reach expanded further when he signed with the Mexican label Discos Musart. During his time with the label, Chalino recorded releases that defined his career, including Alma enamorada and Nieves de enero. His catalog also includes well-known songs such as “Prenda del alma,” “Los chismes,” “El pitallón,” “El navegante,” “Una tarde,” and “El pávido Návido.”
His life ended in 1992, yet his influence grew stronger over time. More than three decades later, Chalino Sánchez stands as a defining figure in Mexican music and a cultural icon known as El Rey del Corrido. Artists across genres continue to acknowledge his impact. Snoop Dogg has shared his admiration for Chalino’s music, and fans organize events to honor his story. Recent years have renewed interest in his life through the chart-topping podcast Ídolo: The Ballad of Chalino Sánchez and the Vix docuseries Nunca Tuvo Miedo.

His influence shapes younger Mexican and Mexican-American artists such as Natanael Cano, Peso Pluma, and Fuerza Regida. Their corridos tumbados trace a direct connection to Chalino’s sound and attitude while reaching global success. The new Brown N Proud and Discos Musart collection arrives as a focused tribute to that legacy.
The pieces appear exclusively through the online stores of Brown N Proud and Discos Musart, the two official retailers licensed to sell Chalino Sánchez merchandise.
