After the last month’s campaign controversy that struck Balenciaga, many celebrities and brands decided to cut ties with the brand. One of the most luxurious brands has made the promotion of new products in an unacceptable way, with advertising campaign with photos of children holding toys with sado-masochistic details, court records of child pornography and more. The luxury house responded by issuing apologies and statements, while saying it would no longer be suing the production company behind the problematic visuals. Reportedly, adidas is also reconsidering their partnership after also ousting Ye’s YEEZY brand. Though adidas has been pretty busy this year with major collaborations, which made headlines, the controversy with Balenciaga is not something they need on their resume. In a series of screenshots shared by Sneaker Freaker, adidas states in a number of customer service emails that it is in the process of re-evaluating the partnership with Balenciaga and that it has paused all product launches until further notice. Meanwhile, Balenciaga’s website shows a different response when customers try to purchase an item from the collaboration, that they are delayed in shipment and that the previous tracking number should be ignored.

The Balenciaga x adidas Spring 2023 Collection was introduced with a campaign two months ago starring Isabelle Huppert and Han So Hee, boxer Jermell Charlo, singer BCW and models Bella Hadid and Khadim Sock. The campaign explored typified office behaviors, exemplifying boredom, aggression, stress, and self-satisfaction. Stars of the session are surrounded by workday clutter: piles of paper, jars of writing utensils, landline phones, and computers. While the campaign and products still remain on both brand’s sites, we’re still waiting for the official announcments from the brands surrounding the current state. Stay tuned for more updates.
