In a significant reshuffle within the Italian fashion industry, Blumarine has welcomed a new visionary, Walter Chiapponi, as its creative director. The announcement came earlier today, marking a fresh start for the fashion house following Nicola Brognano’s departure in October.
Chiapponi, who parted ways with Tod’s in September after redefining its men’s and women’s collections with a contemporary elegance, is poised to inject a similar fresh perspective into Blumarine. Known for his refined aesthetic at Tod’s, he is expected to steer Blumarine through its current revival. With a nod to the brand’s heyday in the 1990s and early 2000s, Chiapponi is tasked with intertwining Blumarine’s signature elements, such as fur-trimmed baby cardigans and sparkling tank tops, with a new-age vibrancy.
Having contributed his creative expertise to esteemed labels like Bottega Veneta, Miu Miu, and Gucci, Chiapponi is set to debut his inaugural Blumarine collection in the Fall 2024 season at Milan Fashion Week. Marco Marchi, the head of Blumarine’s parent company, Eccellenze Italiane, has expressed confidence in Chiapponi’s internationally lauded talent and keen stylistic insight to rejuvenate the brand while respecting its rich legacy.
Chiapponi himself is enthusiastic about the future, sharing in his statement a keenness to evolve the iconic brand, which has been synonymous with a unique blend of femininity characterized by a certain ethereal and inventive spirit. He views his new role at Blumarine as a gateway to new challenges and a chance to further his artistic expression.
I am delighted to have been appointed Creative Director of an iconic Italian brand that has outlined over time an idea of femininity that is defined by lightness and creativity. The possibility of contributing to establishing a new phase for Blumarine is for me an opportunity to embrace new thrilling and important horizons, to expand my vision and to restore sense to artistic expression.

His storied career, which includes stints with other fashion powerhouses like Alessandro Dell’Acqua and Valentino, will undoubtedly influence his direction at Blumarine. The fashion community is abuzz with anticipation, speculating that by February’s presentations, Blumarine might reveal a more mature twist under Chiapponi’s direction, while staying true to the brand’s playful and romantic essence.
