She appeared during the Opening Ceremony to give the 592 U.S. athletes the warm welcome they deserve, wearing a silk taffeta varsity opera coat in hues of red, white, and blue.
Lady Gaga inaugurated the Opening Ceremony with a spectacular performance that celebrated the spirit of French cabaret and its brightest stars. Orchestrated on the Square Barye at the tip of Ile Saint Louis, singer-songwriter performed “Mon Truc en Plumes,” a tribute to Zizi Jeanmaire. This cult hit was conceived in 1961 by Roland Petit, a choreographer for whom Christian Dior had already designed ballet costumes. For this grandiose show, Dior’s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri designed a black satin bustier paired with panties crafted by the house of Cadolle, topped with a short jacket and a majestic feathered skirt in a sublime black and pink palette. The silhouette was enhanced by a matching headdress elaborated by Stephen Jones. As Gaga performed, she gradually removed her garments, eventually appearing adorned with a “Cul de Paris,” the emblematic accessory of the art of music hall. She was surrounded by seventeen musicians and ten dancers in Dior outfits inspired by Audrey Hepburn in Sabrina (1954) and pompoms made by the Lido de Paris.
Aya Nakamura‘s performance was another standout moment, with her and her dancers shimmering in gold Dior creations adorned with thousands of hand-placed feathers. This exquisite detailing showcased the craftsmanship and innovation of the Dior ateliers, adding a touch of magic to the ceremony. This innovative design, crafted in collaboration with embroiderer Clara Daguin, highlighted the blend of tradition and modernity that defines Dior’s creative approach.
Céline Dion’s appearances always leave an unforgettable impression, and her grand comeback at the Opening Ceremony was no exception. Performing Edith Piaf’s “Hymne à l’Amour” from the second floor of the Eiffel Tower, majestically crowned by the Olympic rings. She wore a white silk georgette gown from Dior haute couture, embroidered with a hypnotic palette of sequins and magnified by over 500 meters of fringing studded with thousands of silver beads. This exceptional model, entirely made-to-measure, required over a thousand hours of work, perpetuating the prodigious embroidery savoir-faire of the House of Dior. Dion was accompanied at the piano by composer and conductor Scott Price in a black Oblique tuxedo by Kim Jones for Dior.

The Medals Trunks, embodying the aspirations of Olympic and Paralympic athletes, are wrapped in the iconic Monogram canvas and feature brass corners and closures, a hallmark of Louis Vuitton trunks since the 1850s. Inspired by the Maison’s renowned Malle Coiffeuse, these trunks boast a central section and two hinged “wings” that open to reveal drawers specifically designed to hold 468 medals.. This remarkable creation journeyed from the Louis Vuitton ateliers to the Trocadéro, accompanied by a choreographed performance that celebrated the brand’s heritage.
